Tabla Solo in Tintal - recorded live at Dartington Hall, UK 1st June 2001

Tintal is the most frequently used taal, or rhythmic cycle used in North Indian classical music, and particularly in the tradition of solo tabla playing. Tintal is a sixteen beat cycle counted 4+4+4+4. In this solo tabla performance, Kailash plays material from the Benares, Delhi and Punjab traditions. Through playing rhythmic compositions and improvisational forms such as Uthan, Peshkar, Qu'aida, Rela, Tokra's and Paran's, spontaneous virtuosic improvisations are interspersed with well known compositions created by highly respected tabla masters, such as Ustad Ahmedjan Tirakwa Khan.
