Kailash Nishad is an accomplished virtuoso tabla player from Banaras, India. Son of a Sitar player, Kailash was introduced to music at an early age and began playing Tabla at the age of five.

Kailash studied tabla with Pandit Chotilal Misra of the Banaras gharana (school of tabla), learning the Banaras tradition of tabla playing.Kailash has also gone on to incorporate the styles of the other gharanas into his repertoire. Kailash also completed a Masters degree in tabla at the Benares Hindu University.

Besides the traditional techniques and material, Kailash has also performed and recorded with Fusion groups in Europe.

Kailash has performed extensively throughout India, Europe, the UK, USA and UAE, delighting audiences with his skill and dexterity.

Kailash has also performed and recorded for Indian television, All India Radio and BBC Radio. As well as being an accompanist, Kailash is becoming known in Europe and the UK for his virtuosic tabla solos which incorporate material from various traditions of tabla playing.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tabla Lessons in Benares

Kailash teaches at his home in Varanasi ( Benares ), India. Benares is one of the main centres in India for the study of Indian classical music. Situated on the bank of the river Ganges, it is an ideal place to study the tabla, and there are many opportunities to meet and play with other musicians.

Kailash is familiar with teaching Indian & non Indian students, and teaches at all levels, from complete beginners to advanced students.

Kailash has also run tabla workshops at Dartington College of Arts in the UK since 2000, and has had students from the college stay & study with him in Benares as part of their degree course.
